The Sky’s the Limit

I enjoy gazing up at the blue sky on a clear day. It’s almost like the sky is silently speaking to me. Yes, it is reminding me of how insignificant I am among the expanse of space above me, but it also gets me to realize something profound. No matter where we are in the world, no matter our circumstances, no matter the weather, and no matter how we feel, the sky is always there.  If we were in a low valley, or on top of the tallest mountain, the same sky is still there, as far as the east is from the west.  Regardless of the state of our community, nation, or world, one of the few things we know for sure is that the sky will be there in the morning, and the sky will be there at night, faithful and steady, every day.

It’s as if the sky is a monumental reminder of something grand, something we need and long for every day. What could that be, maybe a deep desire to understand God’s true character, and how He really feels about us, personally? The sky reminds me, and all of us, that God loves and cares for every one of us, and that He is with us no matter where we are in the world; no matter our circumstances, no matter the turbulent and difficult times we live in, and no matter how we feel. He is still here for each of us, faithful and steady, every day. His love and care for us never changes.  We might be in a low valley of despair, or on top of the tallest mountain of prosperity, the same God is still right here.

What about the storms, when the sky turns angry and dark, when the lightening flashes, and the thunder rolls? Is God still here then? Yes, God is still here!  In fact, Psalms 18:11 says that God makes darkness His secret place, His pavilion.  What does that mean for you and for me?  It means that God moves in even closer to us during our darkest times. He sets up house with us in our most painful, and scariest situations. He comes to suffer with us. He is together with us in this thing called life, and one day He will make things ALL right. Wow!

So, let’s keep looking up and remembering that just as the sky has no limit, so it is with God’s love for us. It has no beginning and no end. The sky that we all see everyday is meant to give us strength to face each day with hope and courage. God’s presence is our constant stability in the midst of so much fear, confusion, pain, and insecurity.  The God of all creation is with you, and with me, personally. He loves and cares for us, always.
